Yama Warashi is Bristol-based Japanese artist Yoshino Shigihara’s solo project. She was a keyboardist of Zun Zun Egui (Bella Union) also plays synth for Rozi Plain (Lost Map records).
Her music has a dreamy evocative sound with a shadow of moon cake, inspired by Japanese folk dance music, Bon Odori (盆踊り), free jazz and African music with a slice of electric psychedelia.
Accompanied by saxophone, guitar and bass, Yoshino plays keyboard, percussions and sings songs in her mother tongue about mycelium, nuclear power and broken O.
Yama Warashi (山童) means a small child-like spirit which lives in the mountains.
She has supported Sons of kemet and Momus in 2015.
